KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry attendant was sentenced to three months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here after he pleaded guilty to two charges of threatening and assaulting his wife, three days ago.
S. Sugendran, 28, made the plea before magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som on two charges of threatening and assaulting his wife, shop helper C. Umarani, 30, at the Kerinchi People's Housing Scheme (PPR), Pantai Dalam, here, at 9am, on June 12.
The court imposed three months' imprisonment on every charge against Sugendran, who has two children, and ordered the sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest, June 12.
Earlier, the accused, who was not represented, appealed for a light sentence, saying he was the major breadwinner in the family.
"I have two children. I am also taking care of my mother who is suffering from a stroke. I promise not to repeat the mistake," he said.
However, deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence. — Bernama
