When coffee meets colour

WHILE summer is often associated with colours that are vibrant, bright and bold, it often comes as a time for exciting outdoor activities as well as lip-smacking Starbucks Frappuccinos.
In light of this and Starbucks Malaysia’s campaign tagline “Show Your Flavour”, the coffee company collaborated with Dulux Paint (Dulux) to unveil its summer inspired mural art project.
According to Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei public affairs and digital strategy adviser Salleharon Ahmad, this is the first collaboration between Starbucks and Dulux. Its main purpose: to showcase local talent through mural artworks.
PEOPLE-CENTRIC PROJECT
Under the banner of the project, 23 local artists were invited to create their summer-themed works of art on the walls of Starbucks’ Jalan Ampang Drive-Thru outlet.
The artists, comprising students, executives and those from the banking and finance industry, created art pieces that reflect the season, Starbucks’ two summer frappuccinos – Irish Cream Coffee Pudding and Matcha Earl Grey Jelly.
In Penang, the project saw the coffee company working with students and art lecturers from Equator Academy of Art in creating wall murals for its Starbucks Tanjung Tokong Drive-Thru Outlet in the state.
The introduction of these two summer-inspired murals were intended to initiate Starbucks’ in store “Show Your Flavour”Mural Art Project.
Under the project, eight clean slate canvasses were put up at various stores whereby customers were encouraged to express their creativity and given colouring materials to draw anything they felt inspired to, from layouts to colours of the Starbucks Frappuccinos.
ENGAGING THROUGH COLOUR AND COFFEE
While Berjaya Food Berhad’s CEO Sydney Quays was excited to see the creativity of the artists expressing their “summer feel”, he also expressed his joy that customers can now enjoy the beautiful view of the mural artworks while savouring their favourite cup of Starbucks Frappuccinos and coffees.
AkzoNobel Decorative Paints Malaysia general manager Indran Laban was more than happy to join forces with the coffee company in this project.
“This noble effort is aligned with AkzoNobel’s insistent effort in sustaining local talent and creating everyday essentials to make peoples’ lives more livable and inspiring.” Laban also shared his belief in the power of paint and colour that can transform lives and uplift communities, changing behaviours and making living spaces more fun and enjoyable.
“No longer blank canvasses – these walls are now tools that inspire, connect and engage,” he added.
TASTES LIKE SUMMER
This summer, Starbucks invites its patrons to enjoy its latest frappuccinos that “taste” of summer –the Starbucks Irish Cream Coffee Pudding Frappuccino and the Starbucks Matcha Earl Grey Jelly Frappuccino. These drinks are available for a limited time starting in June at participating Starbucks stores throughout Malaysia.
