Berjaya, MACC launches Sahabat SPRM to seek public aid against corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corporation Berhad has shown its dedication in the fight to eradicate corruption by entering a cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) through the launch of "Sahabat SPRM" (Friends of MACC) campaign today.
The Sahabat SPRM would see messages bearing the commission's careline being displayed on more than 2,000 7-Eleven outlets nationwide, a measure to encourage public to report any corruption-related wrongdoings.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said such initiative would make it easier for the public to play its role as a partner for the commission in fighting corruption and abuse of power.
"Through this campaign, we want the public to be our friends. They have to be our eyes and ears for the MACC in the fight against corruption," he said.
"In discharging our responsibility, we know that we will not be able to do it alone. We need the cooperation of all parties in this fight," he said in his speech at the campaign's officiating ceremony at Berjaya Times Square.
Also present at the event was Berjaya Corporation Berhad executive director Datuk Zurainah Musa.
In his speech, Dzulkifli also lauded the efforts undertaken by Berjaya in the nationwide battle against corruption by being the first corporate body to cooperate with MACC.
He hoped more corporate companies would follow suit the steps taken by Berjaya in showing support with the anti-corruption movement.
"The involvement of corporate companies will not only present themselves with a good image, but will also give a hand in curbing corruption and abuse of power," he said.
"I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to Berjaya and 7-Eleven for the campaign. I believe such effort will be able to bring major changes and cleanse our country from the practice of corruption and abuse of power," he added.
Dzulkifli pointed out that there were those who were afraid to report to MACC due to fear for their own safety.
He however said that the public should not have any fear for the commission as both parties were fighting against a common enemies.
"We want to develop a community that is brave and have the courage to say no to corruption," he added.
