IGP will be called if need arises in Gopi case: MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will only call the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar if there is a need to the investigation of corrupt police officers in Malacca.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said any probe done by the commissioner would be based on its investigation results and not simply through claims raised on the internet.
"It depends on the investigation process (whether to call Khalid). We will see whether there is a need to it," he said.
"The claims was not based on investigation. Our action is based on investigation and not reports on the internet," he told reporters after officiating the Sahabat SPRM campaign at Berjaya Times Square today.
His comment came after Khalid's confession of knowing Gopinathan Krishnan, the man allegedly collected bribes to protect illegal gambling centres and massage parlours in Malacca.
Whistleblower site Sarawak Report had earlier came out with a report claiming that the suspect is acquainted with Khalid's son and brother-in-law.
Gopinathan, together with five other individuals, were arrested by MACC last May following the arrest of a dozen individuals including police suspected of corruption.
Dzulkifli assured that investigation on the issue was still ongoing and the commission was in the midst of tracking other important suspects.
"There are suspects that we are still unable to find. We are tracking several important suspects, both in and outside of the country.
"We will find those suspects and conclude our investigation," he said.
