Bursa Malaysia opens slightly higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened slightly higher today on renewed buying interests in selected heavyweights such as Petronas Gas and Petronas Dagangan.
At 9.06 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.60 of-a-point higher at 1,791.91 from Friday's 1,791.31, after opening 0.82 of-a-point better at 1,792.13.
On the broader market, market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers 115 to 94 while 189 counters were unchanged, 1,395 untraded and 30 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 94.66 million shares worth RM29.39 million.
Petronas Gas added 28 sen to RM19.18 and Petronas Dagangan rose 10 sen to RM24.40.
AllianceDBS Research said the FBM KLCI today would likely to trade above the 1,796.75 level.
On the scoreboard, the FBMT100 Index improved 2.029.48 points to 12,394.49, FBM Emas Index increased 5.30 points to 12,757.14 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index appreciated 15.13 points to 12,994.24.
The FBM 70 fell 5.40 points to 15,134.36 and the FBM Ace depreciated 1.91 points to 6,340.49.
On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index declined 19.73 points to 16,888.91, the Industrial Index went up 9.30 points to 3,292.17 and the Plantation Index was 10.00 points higher to 8,026.97.
Among heavyweights, Maybank fell two sen to RM9.61, TNB decreased four sen to RM14.40 and Public Bank slid eight sen to RM20.32.
Axiata added four sen to RM5.03, Digi increased three sen to RM4.98 and Hong Leong gained eight sen to RM15.70.
Gold futures untraded in early session
Gold futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives were untraded in early session today.
As at 9.34 am, June 2017, July 2017, August 2017 and September 2017 were pegged at RM173.00, RM173.15, RM173.65 and RM173.80 a gramme respectively.
Turnover was nil while open interest amounted to 249 contracts.
At 9.30 am, physical gold down 65 sen at RM166.27 per gramme. – Bernama
