Marine Serre named LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize winner

19 Jun 2017 / 03:03 H.

A FRESH graduate of 2016 who stepped out with the highest honors from Belgium's top design school La Cambre with her first collection 'Radical Call for Love,' Marine has been climbing the fashion ranks, working for Maison Martin Margiela and Christian Dior.
Her graduate collection, 'Radical Call for Love,' which was internationally stocked for Fall/Winter 2017-8, fused 19th century Arab luxurious garments (caftan, karakou, sirwal, etc.) with corporate 1990s and 00s sportswear trends. Her futuristic fashion debut is all about expressing hybridity, and working with her existing ties with Brussels where the 'Call' was conceived, and with the world at large.

Meanwhile a special prize of €150,000 and a year-long mentorship was awarded to Japanese designer Kozaburo Akasaka for his "delicately deconstructed menswear" under the name Kozaburo.
Launched four years ago, the LVMH Prize was created to honor and support young fashion designers around the world.
LVMH's support covers all the areas of expertise that are critical to a fledgling fashion brand: intellectual property, sourcing, production and distribution, image and advertising, marketing, etc. — AFP Relaxnews
