PETALING JAYA: Bali police are investigating whether four foreign inmates, including a Malaysian, could have drowned while they were trying to dig their way out of Kerobokan Prison in Bali.
The inmates, including Malaysian drugs prisoner Tee Kok King, broke out of jail through a 15m-long tunnel on Monday morning.
A police diver attempted to check the tunnel today but discovered it was unstable and flooded with water, according to a report by Australia's 9News.
Badung Police Chief Yudith Satriya Hananta said police found a fork inside but there was no sign of the prisoners. He expressed fears that the inmates were trapped or possibly could have drowned.
Police are draining the tunnel as part of investigations
Tee escaped with Bulgarian Dimitar Nikolov Iliev, who was sentenced to seven years prison for money laundering in 2016, Indian Sayed Mohammed Said who was in jail for a drugs offence and Australian Shaun Edward Davidson.
Tee, 48, was nabbed in January last year for smuggling syabu and was sentenced to seven years jail.
