PETALING JAYA: Police have found a head torch inside a tunnel believed to have been used by four inmates who broke out of Kerobokan Prison in Bali.
The torch, which was still switched on, was inside the 15m tunnel which led from the jail to outside the prison walls. Clothes and sandals were also found the tunnel.
The authorities said there was no sign of the four fugitives after combing the area.
The foreign inmates, including Malaysian drugs prisoner Tee Kok King, broke out of jail through a 15m-long tunnel on Monday morning. Tee, 48, was nabbed in January last year for smuggling syabu and was sentenced to seven years jail.
The other fugitives are Shaun Edward Davidson from Perth, Sayeb Mohammed Said From India, and Dimitar Nikolov Iliev from Bulgaria.
Police will attempt to enter the tunnel, using scuba and breathing gear, today. Their search was aborted yesterday after heavy rain flooded the tunnel.
The authorities expressed fear that the four men could have been stuck inside the tunnel and drowned.
Perth Now today reported the Corrections chief of the Bali Law and Human Rights Ministry, Surung Pasaribu, as saying they would also check if the men had fled through any jail gates or with a garbage truck.
The tunnel is believed to be an old waste tunnel or water drain. It exited the prison just under a guard tower. However, the tower was not manned at the time of the escape due to staff shortages at the prison.
