Malakoff chairman and managing director step down

    PETALING JAYA: In a surprise move, Malakoff Corp Bhd announced the resignations of both its chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail and managing director Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid.
    The group told Bursa Malaysia that Anwar was leaving because of other professional commitments, and Azhar for personal and professional reasons. Both of them assured Malakoff that there were no disagreements with the board of directors prior to their decisions. Azhar held his position as MD for just a little over a year.
    Malakoff has appointed Datuk Hasni Harun and Habib Husin as the group chairman and CEO respectively.

    Hasni is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from United States International University San Diego, California, and a Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) degree from University of Malaya.
    He held several senior positions in the Accountant General’s Office from 1980 to 1994. He was MMC Corp Bhd managing director from May 2010 until June 2013.
    Hasni is currently chairman of Gas Malaysia Bhd and a director of Permodalan Felcra Sdn Bhd.
    Habib, who has been Malakoff executive vice-president (operations) since August 2015, holds a Bachelor in Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) degree from University of Wales.
