May CPI up 3.9%
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.9% year-on-year in May 2017 compared with a 4.4% increase in April 2017, led by increases in the indices for transport (+13.1%), food & non-alcoholic beverages (+4.4%), recreation services & culture (+2.9%), health (+2.9%), restaurants and hotels (+2.3%) and housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels (+2.2%).
Core inflation rose 2.6% in May 2017 compared to the same month of the previous year.
The CPI for the period of January to May 2017 registered an increase of 4.3% as compared to the same period last year, mainly contributed by the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages, which registered an increase of 4.1%.
Based on a seasonally adjusted term, the overall CPI for May 2017 decreased 0.2% as compared to April 2017.
