SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct a comprehensive study on all aspects including the design of the accident-prone stretch of Jalan Kuala Pilah-Bukit Putus to curb fatal accidents.
Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the State Executive Council had decided on the matter as there had been accidents occurring along the 50km stretch, some of which were due to negligence on the part of drivers and other technical errors.
"The study is to ascertain whether it (the design of the road) is one of the factors contributing to accidents. If needs be, we will engage foreign experts so that we can reduce and curb fatal accidents in the area.
"As to when they (PWD) will complete the investigation, I have no idea about it. I cannot comment on the technical aspects but we have instructed (them) to set up a special committee to investigate and study as soon possible as the PWD staff will only be returning to work after the Aidilfitri holidays," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the state Exco at Wisma Negri here today.
Mohamad also advised the road users, especially those who were not familiar with the route, to exercise caution while driving along the stretch during this festive season. — Bernama
