DENGKIL: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today advised Muslims not to be influenced by the defamation culture and to verify any news or issues spread in social media before responding to them.
If the culture was not contained, it would create social problems and bring down the country, he said at the opening of the Al-Ilmi Mosque and breaking-of-fast in Kampung Datuk Ahmad Razali here today.
"In today's changed world, social media plays a major role in disseminating news. False news deliberately fabricated by irresponsible parties is also easily disseminated and can influencedthe public to believe in it and respond to it," said the sultan.
He also urged Muslims in the state to seek religious knowledge from qualified teachers to avoid being misguided and influenced by extremist teachings.
"I am disappointed that there are Muslims who are willing to abandon their families just to participate in terrorist activities abroad and even worse, there are some who influence Muslims in Malaysia to join them in this pointless struggle," he said.
Meanwhile, the sultan of Selangor also called on Muslim businessmen and investors doing business or investments in Selangor to pay property tithe to the Selangor Zakat Board.
"This is because the scholars have concluded that the property or business tithes must be paid in the state where they are being carried out. So Muslim businessmen who earn profits in Selangor but pay their tithes in other states just to gain popularity are violating the rules," he said.
At the event, the sultan handed over aid to 210 poor people and 104 converts from Dengkil. — Bernama
