MILLIONS of Malaysians are on the roads each year for the Hari Raya balik kampung exodus, and most of them use a navigation solution such as Waze to beat the traffic jam.
To make planning your balik kampung trip easier this year, Waze has used key metric data from last year to help users avoid traffic during the peak hours.
By analysing its 2016 Hari Raya app usage, Waze has released predictions for the major metro areas from June 21, 2017 to June 25, 2017.
According to the study, Kota Baru will top the traffic surge chart throughout the period with five times more traffic than usual. This is followed by Kuala Terengganu with four times more traffic, Kinta Valley with 3.7 more traffic, Batu Pahat with 3.6 more traffic, and 2.6 more traffic in Central Malacca.
Waze also predicts that Kuala Lumpur will experience 90% fewer traffic jams on June 22, Kota Baru will experience a 500% increase in road accidents on June 23, and Johor Baru will see 27% more police activities on the same day.
According to Waze, Malaysia has the highest number of users in all of Asia. In addition, there are 2.5 million users in Kuala Lumpur, contributing nearly 1.2 million alerts, such as for accidents and potholes, per month.
Drivers using the app collectively drive more than 288 million kilometres per month.
