A world of opportunities

WHEN Fakhrur Bukhary was researching Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes prior to starting his studies, one programme stood out for him – the Edinburgh Business School MBA.
Fakhrur, a senior project manager for Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) Malaysia, investigated a number of institutions, but registered with Edinburgh Business School which delivers its MBA programme at the Heriot-Watt campus in Putrajaya.
"In comparison with other shortlisted institutions, the MBA course offered at Edinburgh Business School covers a wider spectrum, the weekend classes suit me and I like the reputation of both the Business School and the university's ranking," he said.
Fakhrur has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and has been working in the construction industry for 17 years in various sectors including corporate, financial, education and oil and gas. He decided to study for an MBA after reviewing his skills and knowledge.
"In late 2016 I outlined my plan for personal development and one of the key success factors to achieve my ambitions was that I needed to enhance my knowledge and understanding of business administration.
"I'm confident that the knowledge and skills that I'm developing will contribute positively to my career progression, or in a new venture should I decide to run my own business," he said.
Fakhrur tries to spend two to three hours a day studying, arriving early at work, taking a short lunch break to study and reading the course text last thing at night.
"The course structure and context are industry related; the lecturers and tutors have industry experience and are therefore in a good position to relate the concepts and theories to the real world, the campus is beautiful, the staff friendly and the facilities are great," he said.
Fakhrur was among the 21 new students who began their studies in January. The popular and flexible MBA programme boasts more than 11,200 active students and 20,500 graduates in 166 countries worldwide. 
Those embarking on the programme include engineers, doctors, marketing and finance professionals, teachers and business owners. 
The world-renowned MBA programme has been delivered by top UK and Asian staff at the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia campus since January 2013. To date, 47 students have completed the programme with a further 98 currently studying part-time. 
The Edinburgh Business School MBA programme is approved by the MoHE, fully accredited by the MQA in Malaysia, and delivered by Heriot-Watt University, accredited by Royal Charter in the UK.
Registration is open for the September 2017 intake and the school is holding a series of MBA preview events. The first is on Thursday, July 20 at 6.30pm at the Hilton Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.
