GEORGE TOWN: The family of T. Nhaveen will receive a life-time pension from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) following his death from a vicious assault earlier this month.
Socso Penang director Anthony Arul Dass said Nhaveen's father, mother and sister will receive a total of RM672 per month for life to be divided among the three.
He said the pension will be valid for the 15-year-old sister until she turns 21 or gets married.
Anthony said Nhaveen qualified for the aid as he was working as a part-time promoter since May 15 and he was on his way home at the time of the assault.
"Investigations were conducted and we found what happened to be a 'commuting accident'," he said and expressed hope the family will remain strong.
Earlier, he presented a RM2,000 contribution to Nhaveen's mother D.Shanti, 43, at her home in Taman Tun Sardon here today.
The contribution is part of the bereavement benefits under Socso.
Nhaveen succumbed to his injuries on June 15 after the June 9 incident when he was out buying burgers with a friend, T. Previin, 19, at Jalan Kaki Bukit here.
Four suspects, two 18-year-olds and two 17-year-olds, have since been charged for the murder of Nhaveen and for causing grievous injuries to Previin.
