KUALA LUMPUR: The Taxi Industry Transformation Programme (TITP) initiative is to provide taxi drivers a "level-playing field" with e-hailing services.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri (pix) said besides this initiative, efforts to clear the shun negative perception of taxi drivers would make people more responsive to the industry.
"We want the local taxi industry to undergo some upgrades, that is why we introduced TITP to create a better environment for drivers as well as users.
"I also believe that a positive perception of the taxi industry will continue to rise if we can impress users with basic matters such as clean and well maintained vehicle, complimented with the driver's good behavior, personality and high integrity," she said.
Nancy said during a press conference after she handed over Individual Taxi Licences to 300 drivers under the TITP programme at the Land Public Transportation Commission (SPAD) headquarters here.
She added the amendment to Land Public Transport Act 2010, which will be tabled in the upcoming parliament session, is also a testament to the government's effort in providing the best service to the people.
Nancy said SPAD will have the full authority in streamlining the rules and regulations of taxi leasing.
"This also includes an allocation for a free day for Puspakom inspection, annual and medical leave, first party vehicle insurance and deposit return after contract ends," she said.
