PETALING JAYA: Muslims in the country are urged to practise forgiveness and not to lock horns with each other simply to satisfy one's own desires.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) said as the Muslim world welcomes the month of Syawal (Hari Raya), Muslims in the country should avoid the politics of hatred or risk seeing the relationship among them take a turn for the worse.
"We mustn't forget that if we become negligent and choose hate politics, it's not impossible for our relationship among Muslims, and even with the non-Muslims, to spiral downwards.
"Only those with a big heart will forgive, and we Muslims should choose a path that promises unity, and not always arguing and looking at differences just to satisfy one's need," he posted on his blog today.
Noting the clashes and disputes among some Islamic nations around the world, Najib said victory for the Muslim community would only be possible if they practise forgiveness.
He noted that the perception among certain foreign nations that regards Islam as the cause of hatred and extremism was only making it hard on the Muslim community.
"So with Syawal just around the corner, it is with high hopes that Muslims, especially those in Malaysia, use this opportunity to fight for peace and unity, as urged by our Prophet Muhammad," he said.
