MALACCA: Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) produced a 'Male Urinal System' product known as 'Suci-Uris' to facilitate consumers, especially men to urinate without having to go to the toilet.
UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib said the product which took about a year to produce through applied research, facilitates the relevant group, primarily the Umrah and Haj pilgrims to urinate when in the Holy Land.
He said a research fund of less than RM100,000 was used to produce the product which had received the syariah-compliant status from the Melaka State Mufti, support from Lembaga Tabung Haji and SIRIM approval.
"A back flow test has been conducted on the 'Suci-Uris' product to ensure the urine released will continue to flow into the urine bag supplied with the product.
"Besides being used by umrah and haj pilgrims, the product is also suitable for motorists trapped in traffic congestion, patients in hospitals or homes who find it difficult to move and overseas tourists who have difficulty finding access to toilet facilities," he told reporters here, today.
Shahrin said this after representing UTeM at the handing over of the memorandum of agreement on the commercialisation of the product by Spektrum Teknik Sdn Bhd, represented by its managing director Azizan Ismail.
Commenting further, Shahrin said the 'Suci-Uris' product did not only help the user to urinate with ease but it was equipped with a sprinkler system to perform ablution and the product was patented and released by Spektrum Teknik from May.
Meanwhile, Azizan said the product component was made up of containers, urine bag and a ‘khasyafah’ holder (penis) stored in a portable bag weighing 600g.
He said the product was manufactured using a durable and non-burstable plastic and sold online on Facebook or Instagram ‘sepektrumuci’ priced at RM159.
"We see this product getting an encouraging response and until now, have produced about 1,000 sets of 'Suci-Uris'. For a start, the product has received requests from consumers in Indonesia and we expect to sell more than 15,000 units in the near future," he said.
He added the product was easy to handle because it was user friendly and practical for all ages. — Bernama
