Woman in Johor dies of leptospirosis

JOHOR BARU: A 44-year-old woman died of leptospirosis after being admitted to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital on Thursday.
Siti Noor Zalena Mior Hamzah, 44, from Taman Kenangan, Tampoi, was earlier admitted for fever and other symptoms at 3am on June 22, but succumbed to the disease at 7.35pm yesterday.
Johor Health and Environment, Education and Information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat confirmed the case.
He urged the public to be careful when it comes to food hygiene to avoid consuming food with the dangerous bacteria spread by rats.
In May, an 18-year old boy from Pekan Nanas, Pontian died of leptospirosis, after swimming at the Gunung Pulai waterfall.
The recreation park was ordered to be closed following the incident.
