Former bank officer claims trial to five CBT charges

IPOH: A former bank officer pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to five criminal breach of trust (CBT) charges involving RM81,495 belonging to a customer three years ago.
Shifarina Sharif Puddin, 33, was charged with committing the CBT by taking the cash money entrusted to her by a customer to pay housing loan arrears.
She was alleged to have committed the offences in five transactions at the Jelapang CIMB Bank branch here between October 2015 and June 2016.
Each charge under Section 409 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term not exceeding 20 years with caning and fine upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Sally Chang proposed bail at RM10,000 for each of the offences as it was a serious case.
Counsel Dayang Nor Emilia Azman Shah who represented the accused, however, sought to reduce the bail as her client is now unemployed.
Judge S. Indra Nehru set bail at RM8,000 in one surety for each of the charge, making the overall amount at RM40,000.
July 17 was set for remention. — Bernama
