BESUT: The Kota Putera Paragliding Park, or more familiarly known as "Mini Bali" among international paragliders, will be given a new name, Kota Putra Extreme Paragliding Park.
Kota Putera assemblyman Mohd Mahdi Musa said the park that is located at an altitude of 165m on Bukit Bubus, will be developed into a world-renowned paragliding park, to suit its popularity as the best paragliding park in the East Coast.
He said the unique geographical location of Bukit Bubus had similar features with the paragliding park in Bali, Indonesia, although being smaller in size.
"It is rare to find a paragliding park like at Bukit Bubus which is situated near to the sea. It differs from the one in Gunung Jerai, Kedah", he told Bernama here today.
According to Mohd Mahdi, the paragliding park would be placed under the Besut District land administrative jurisdiction and develop in phases by the Terengganu Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) this year.
He said paragliding activities could generate income for the state as the majority of paragliders were "well-to-do" tourists.
Mohd Mahdi said various plans had been drawn to build facilities such as chalets, toilets, and surau, as well as souvenir shops at the park and the foothill.
He added several areas had also been identified for other extreme sports such as the flying fox, paintball and beach volleyball that would be transit activities for visitors and tourists.
In May, Bukit Bubus was also chosen as the location for the 2017 Terengganu International Paragliding Competition which saw the participation of 70 paragliders from 27 countries. — Bernama
