A SINGAPOREAN family didn't provide accommodation for their maid, leaving her no choice but to sleep in the corridor of their HDB flat while they went on vacation. They didn't want her to stay in the house while they were away.
The maid's friend, Ashley Camara Baccay, took a photo of the maid sleeping in the corridor and posted it on the "Filipinos in Singapore" Facebook page.
The post on June 19 which was written in Tagalog reads:
"I pity my neighbour here in Makena condominium. The employer went for a holiday and doesn't want her to stay in the house.
"They asked the maid to find a place to stay for free because they don't want to pay for her lodging and they even gave her very little food. She doesn't even have her own room.
"They didn't inform her to come back before they left for their trip as she was out on her day off. So she was left to sleep outside the house.
"Heartless and bad employers are the reason why depression drives a lot of helpers to commit suicide."
She was referring to 21-year-old Zin Mar Oo, who took her life after by jumping from the 19th floor of the Interlace Condo in Singapore on June 12.
The Myanmar domestic helper left a suicide note about her depressing working conditions.
