PETALING JAYA: A video of a Catholic church's band in Keningau, Sabah playing a festive Raya song after Sunday mass has warmed the hearts of netizens, causing it to go viral.
The 27-second video posted on Facebook by Melissa James Madan on Sunday, shows the church band playing an instrumental version of Suasana Hari Raya, on the first day of the Aidilfitri celebrations.
"It's Hari Raya and we wanted to enjoy the festivities, and at the same time we wanted to show that it is not wrong to play a Hari Raya song in a church to mark the occasion," Holy Family Pilgrimage Centre Nulu Sosopon church choir leader Harry Wong told The Star.
The video was shot after mass where several altar servers could also be seen removing candles from the altar.
Madan's original video has garnered close to 13,000 views and 493 shares so far, with many Facebook users praising the act.
Facebook user One'z Afiq said despite different races and religions, Malaysians still share the same roots, hoping that the spirit transcends to the next generation.
Ryn Musindra Soong commented: "This is why Sabahans are having a strong relationship even though we hold different beliefs and thoughts – cause we have respect and love to each other!"
