NEW YORK: Datuk Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob celebrated his first Aidilfitri on Sunday as Malaysia's permanent representative to the United Nations.
The 56-year-old senior career diplomat, who presented his letter of accreditation to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters here in February, had hosted an Aidilfitri 'open house' at the Malaysian mission.
"It's quite an experience for me and my family," said Muhammad Shahrul Ikram, who has served in the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1988.
As is the tradition at the Malaysian permanent mission, a lavish spread of Malaysian delicacies with colourful desserts and fresh fruits, prepared under the stewardship of the Malaysian ambassador's wife, was laid out at the buffet tables.
Members of Perwakilan, the ladies association of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had also helped. – Bernama
