Shah Alam public transport hubs ready by year end

SHAH ALAM: Two 'Hentian Akhir Bandar' (HAB) or Final City Terminals are scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the year in sections 17 and 19, according to the Shah Alam City Council.
These terminals will facilitate the movement of passengers and public transport vehicles within the city center to reduce congestion and streamline overlapping routes, said its head of the Corporate and Public Relations Division, Shahrin Ahmad.
He said HAB 17, the single-storey air-conditioned terminal in Section 17, was almost complete, with the consultant was looking into the utility facilities, such as water and electricity.
"We expect HAB 17, construction of which began in 2014 at a cost of RM7 million, to be operational this year," he said to Bernama. HAB 17 will replace the existing bus terminal that has been in operation for more than 20 years.
Shahrin said HAB 17, located on 0.76 hectares, was a modern terminal equipped with a comfortable waiting area and ticket counters, surau, toilets, bus lanes, taxi waiting area, parking bays, shops and stalls.

As for HAB 19, he said the terminal was also a single-storey structure, located on 0.23 hectares, and was expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. For now, only bus and taxi services were available at the terminal.
HAB 17 and HAB 19 are two projects under the National Key Results Areas of the federal government which had allocated RM11 million for their implementation.
Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, who is also chairman of the Selangor Federal Action Council, had said that the federal government was building the two terminals to encourage greater use of public transportation by the people in Selangor. — Bernama
