PETALING JAYA: The services of an Indian food contractor at the Seberang Prai Polytechnic were terminated because of his failure to adhere to contract terms, Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said today.
Kamalanathan said he had spoken to the institution director and said that there were three other food contractors whose services were terminated.
"The director had informed me that in total there are four contractors whose service were terminated (three Malays and one Indian) and the termination was carried out based on administrative reasons of non-adherence to contract terms," Kamalanathan said in a statement yesterday.
"The director himself had also assured that he will resolve this matter immediately."
Kamalanathan said MIC will follow up the matter with the Higher Education Ministry and the director to ensure it is resolved soon.
The issue arose when the institution had allegedly told the Indian food operator in the campus canteen to cease operations due it being non-syariah compliant.
The stall operator then took to the social media to express his unhappiness.
