PETALING JAYA: Long lines have formed at the Pasar Seni bus hub as senior citizens, students and the disabled thronged the counters to replace their MyRapid card with the new MyRapid Touch'n Go (TnG).
Many had come as early as 5am to change the card before July 15 but had to wait for some two hours as the counters processed the replacements.
The old cards will not be able to be used once the MRT line is fully operational on July 17.
There are some 58,000 card holders who have to make the switch.
Card holders will have their pictured taken and incorporated in the new cards — a featured aimed at preventing abuse of the cards. The card holders are entitled to a 50% discount.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz said card holders could also opt to go to the Subang Jaya and Awan Besar LRT stations., which had smaller crowds and the processing time was faster.
Only these three stations have the camera facilities to take pictures.
Azmi explained that the long wait is due to the overwhelming response from the public who took advantage of the festive season holidays to migrate convert their existing concession card to the new concession card that will allow students, senior citizens and the disabled to travel at a discounted rate of 50%.
"The actual processing time is for each of the cards is between 15 to 20 minutes but because of security vetting system and the huge crowd which came to convert their card during that period, it causes the waiting time to be longer.
"However, we are looking into various ways on how to reduce the waiting time," Azmi said.
