16-year-old among three charged with triad activities in Perak

KUALA KANGSAR: Three men, including a teenager, were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with involvement in triad activities.
Liew Kah Chun, 27, and Chip Weng Sang, 45, pleaded guilty after the charges were read out before Magistrate Noorhidayah Mohd Saad, who then ordered a closed-door proceeding for the other accused, aged 16.
Liew, who pleaded guilty to a charge of having a tattoo of a logo which symbolised the Wah Kee Geng 04/18 triad group on the wrist, was fined RM5,000, in default 12 months' jail.
The hotel employee was charged with committing the offence at Sungai Siput branch of Pertubuhan Kemakmuran Si Gong Malaysia, Taman Lintang Makmur, Sungai Siput, at about 4.15pm last June 25.
The charge, under Section 52(3) of the Societies Act 1966, provides an imprisonment for up to five years, or fine of up to RM15,000, upon conviction.
Chip, a farmer, was fined RM1,000, in default a month's jail, for displaying a signboard of "Pertubuhan Kemakmuran Si Gong Malaysia Cawangan Sungai Siput" without the permission of the Registrar of Societies at the same place, time and date.
The charge, made under Section 50(3) of the Societies Act, carries an imprisonment for up to three months, or maximum fine of RM3,000, if found guilty.
Liew and Chip, both unrepresented, paid the fine.
Deputy public prosecutor N. Jayanthi prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the court set July 27 for mention of the case involving the 16-year-old accused, who was allowed bail of RM5,000 in one surety. — Bernama
