Guidebook on disabled voters announced for next general election

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Council of the Blind (NCOBM) announced today a book is being drafted to ensure a smooth operation during for the next general election for persons with disabilities (PWDs) voters.
Its project manager Wong Yoon Loong said the book, titled 'Panduan Membantu dan Berinteraksi dengan Orang Kurang Upaya', will be between 70 and 80 pages complete with illustrations.
The illustrations will make it easier to the public in order to highlight on the management of PWD voters during the election period and specific terms that are used to address a PWD, he said.
He added it will also be aimed to inform the PWD community on their rights as voters, which they may not know, such as having a 'most trusted friend' to accompany PWD voters, instead of a family member, to the ballot stations.
"The PWD do not simply trust people, so you can't just simply come up to us and vote, no, we're not that stupid," he told reporters at NCOBM here after delivering two prizes to two newspaper publication for their articles related to PWD.
He said there are no data of PWD voters' in the EC's registrar.
"We hope the book will be available before the next general election," he added.
