Engineer arrested over graft (Updated)

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained an assistant mechanical engineer for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes from contractors and suppliers of the Bakri Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Technical College located near Muar, about 170km from here.
According to sources, the 42-year-old man was picked up at his house in Merlimau, Malacca about 6.30am to facilitate investigations into alleged malpractices involving tenders for supplies and services at the college where the suspect is attached.
During the raid, a team of MACC investigators seized RM32,000 hidden in biscuit tins at the house. Also seized were jewellery and a four-wheel drive vehicle which was parked in the vicinity.
Initial MACC investigations revealed the suspect had solicited and received bribes totalling almost RM700,000 from contractors between 2014 and last year.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest.
He said the suspect would be taken to the Segamat Sessions Court tomorrow to obtain a remand order. — Bernama
