Mainland Penang will be cleaner and greener: New MPSP president

    BUKIT MERTAJAM: New president of Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP), Sr Rozali Mohamud today pledged that the mainland of Penang will be cleaner and greener.
    He said he will widen the council's focus to villages and rural areas to make his vision of cleaner Seberang Prai a reality during his term as president.
    "MPSP's priority has always to keep Seberang Prai clean since I was promoted to council secretary in 2011. So I intend to keep with the vision as the new president", he told reporters after he was sworn in at the MPSP headquarters at Bandar Perda today.
    Rozali, 59 took his oath before Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng about 10am.
    Rozali joined the council in 1990 as a Valuation and Asset Management Department deputy director before being promoted as the department's director in 2002.
    In 2011, he was promoted to council secretary and is also a four-time recipient of MPSP's Excellence Service Award in 1993, 2000, 2004 and 2015.
    Rozali replaces Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif, who will be sworn in as mayor of Penang Island City Council (MBPP) tomorrow.
    He will retire on Aug 14 next year.
    Meanwhile, 51-year-old Rosnani Mahmod was also sworn in to take over Rozali's position as council secretary.
    A former MPSP Engineering Department director, Rosnani joined MPSP in 1991 as a contract engineer before being promoted several times during her services.
    Rosnani will be MPSP secretary until June 30, 2019.
    Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, state assembly speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, state secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus, state exco members, Maimunah, MBPP secretary Yew Tung Seang and MPSP councillors.
