GEORGE TOWN: Traders in Lebuh Campbell and Jalan Kuala Kangsar are crying foul that their businesses were largely affected due to a Hong Kong (HK) film shooting on Saturday.
Leng Seng and Sons Sdn Bhd owner known as Ah Leng, 47, told theSun his income plunged about 70% on that day but did not elaborate.
He said weekends were days many customers flocked to the shops there, but traders and shopkeepers needed to make way for the film shooting.
He said notices informing traders of such a film was being shot there were only distributed Friday stating the road would be closed from 10am to 7pm.
"I hope the film company would have informed us earlier, " the bag seller said, adding compensation of about RM400 was given by the film company later on.
The notices stated the film company had received the green light from local authorities to carry out filming on that day.
Another bag seller, Alan Lim, 35, said people still came in usual manner but many stood to catch a glimpse of the shooting.
He said many onlookers were standing outside his shop to watch the film shoot instead of entering his shop.
"Film companies should be more understanding next time," he told theSun.
Tan Ai Ling, 35, a jeruk seller in Jalan Kuala Kangsar, however, said she welcomed the film shoot but hoped her business would not be affected.
She said onlookers were standing in front of the doorsteps throughout the day.
" It is really inconvenient for us," she added.
A short video clip has emerged on social media showing three police patrol cars chasing after a van at the narrow Lebuh Campbell.
Many netizens thought it was a real incident but turned out to be the filming of a movie titled "The Leaker".
