Penang Chief Minister to Meet Deputy Prime Minister

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is willing to meet Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the issue of deregistering the DAP.

The party secretary-general said he was willing to meet with Ahmad Zahid to "clear the air" on the matter.

He said his party wanted to face the general election fairly and told opponents to face them fairly in the polls.

"Beat us fair and square in the elections," he said in a press conference yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid is reportedly meeting with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) next week on the matter.

He had told DAP not to speculate on the matter after party veteran Lim Kit Siang warned members to be prepared for the possibility of deregistration.

In a July 2 statement on the issue, Puchong MP Gobing Singh said ROS had recognised the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) elected on September 9, 2013.

The DAP National Legal Bureau chairman said the matter was raised when DAP brought a suit against ROS in 2014.

He said the CEC "may carry out all its powers, functions and duties in the administration of the daily affairs of the DAP in accordance with the Constitution of the DAP".

"The CEC has acted in accordance with this until now.

"It has administered the party for the last four years without any directions from the ROS to the contrary," he said.
