ARAU: A Myanmar worker who allegedly stabbed his countryman to death at their 'kongsi' (workers quarters) in Sungai Durian, Kurung Anai here on Monday has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations.
Arau district police chief Supt Nanda Maarof said the remand order against the suspect, aged 23, was issued by the Kangar Magistrate's Court here today.
He said the suspect was picked up while hiding in bushes about 500m from the 'kongsi' at 7.30pm yesterday.
"The suspect looked tired and hungry when he was trying to escape on foot. However, police managed to apprehend the suspect after he was surrounded by a team of 30 police personnel and with the help of a canine (K9) unit," he told reporters here today.
Nanda said police, however, had not found the weapon used in the alleged murder of the 37-year-old victim, Myint Naing.
In the 9.30pm incident, both Myint and the suspect had a heated argument after the deceased was told by their employer to move out of the house but the victim had refused to follow the instruction, he said. — Bernama
