House in Puchong where anyone can stay for RM1 per night

THERE are two houses in Taman Puchong Utama where those truly in need of temporary shelter can stay for a mere RM1 per night.
Social activist Kuan Chee Heng is known for his big heart after helping many people in need through several initiatives.
The Community Policing Malaysia Association president has helped the poor with his “10 Sen Ambulance” and “Pasar 10 Sen” programmes, where people can enjoy the services or get new clothing for only 10 sen.
Kuan started the “RM1 House” programme after realising the hardships that families faced when they couldn’t afford to get temporary accommodation when a family member fell sick and hospitalised quite a distance from their homes.
Some had to sleep along the corridors in the hospital or in their cars while waiting for their family members were hospitalised.
The two houses in Taman Puchong Utama are furnished with all basic amenities in place. Occupants are also allowed to use all the facilities provided.
Kuan managed to cover the cost incurred for renovation, purchase of electrical and home appliances, and furniture that amounted to almost RM80,000 with the help of sponsors.
Each room in the house is equipped with beds, mattresses, closets, and water heater. There is also a television, washing machine, and a kitchen.
Some of his 200,000 followers on Facebook chipped in to ensure the kitchens were fully stocked.
Those who wish to rent the house do not need to provide any documents or fill up any forms, but Kuan stressed that it is important to be honest.
"No forms to fill up, no documents needed, just come and try. We are not rigid with the rules. The condition is that you must be someone in need," he was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying.
"Occupants need to ensure the cleanliness of the house and they are not allowed to have sex or bring non-halal food and beef out of respect for the various religious communities," Sinar Harian reported him as saying.
Those who wish to stay in one of these two houses can contact Kuan on Facebook.
