BUTTERWORTH: Police have rearrested 50 individuals, including three women, who are believed to be involved in the Macau scam at the Southwest District police headquarters here today.
Penang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief ACP Abdul Ghani said: “We will continue to remand all the 50 suspects, aged between 17 and 42-year-old, to assist in our investigations.
“They would be sent to Butterworth magistrate’s court for remand tomorrow because there is a police report on the matter lodged at North of Seberang Perai.”
Police rounded up the suspects earlier on Monday after a victim lodged a police report in Balik Pulau.
Abdul Ghani said after about a month of intelligence gathering, police raided a three-storey bungalow in Puchong where the syndicate was operating.
The bungalow was used as a training centre for the scammers before they were sent overseas to conduct telephone scams on Malaysians.
“They will pose as bank and police officers and make calls to the victims to transfer money into a specific bank account,” he said.
