GEORGE TOWN: A divorcee is worried sick after her six-year-old son, Benyamin Rafael went missing from her ex-father-in-law's house five days ago.
Balqis Nordin, 26, claims that the father of the boy had taken her son away from her ex-father-in law's house at Taman Lips Sin, Sungai Nibong.
"My father-in-law was supposed to send my son back to me by 8pm on that day, but until today I have not seen my son," she said at a press conference at Kompleks Bukit Jambul early today.
Fearing for her son's safety, the single mother who runs a salon and beauty shop said she decided to lodge a police report on the first day her son went missing.
"Although we have divorced in June last year, he still can't accept reality. The Syariah Court has ordered that the custody of our son to be given to me and my father-in-law, and my ex-husband could only visit my son twice a week," she said.
She also claimed that her son was abused by her ex-husband and had lodged a police report on it. She urged her father-in-law to send her son back to her as soon as possible.
Balqis said she had sought help from members of the public through social media and by distributing flyers and photos of her son.
Also at the press conference was Balqis' uncle, Abdul Hamid Mydin, 59, urged the public to inform them of the whereabouts of Benyamin or contact the nearest police station.
When contacted, the divorcee's ex-father-in-law said he has nothing to do with the boy being missing and denied her accusations.
