More time needed on JJPTR probe: IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Police require more time to conduct investigations into the high-yield investment scheme JJ Poor to Rich (JJPTR) due to the immense volume of documentation, according to the nation's top cop Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
"We need time to analyse the structure of the scheme and to identify the offences involved. It is a very long drawn out and tedious process because we have to go through many documents and accounts," he said at a press conference at University Teknologi Malaysia here today.
He said the investigations were a collaborative effort with the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism ministry and Bank Negara Malaysia to look into offences of money game operators.
He added that more officers from the Commercial Investigation Department had been pulled into the investigation.
Khalid said another problem in the investigations was because most of the JJPTR scheme victims were based in Shanghai, China.
"We have received more than 20 reports on the case, but most of them are Chinese nationals. This is the problem," he said.
Khalid had previously warned the public not to trust high-yield investment companies such as JJPTR as their return of investment is more often than not, too good to be true.
