SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Government named three industries, namely palm oil plantation, quarry, and chicken-breeding, which need to be closely monitored by the Department of Environment for the sake of the people's wellbeing.
State Secretary Datuk Seri Mat Ali Hassan said this was because the three industries had higher impact on the environment compared to other industries.
"It is our aspiration, as well as DoE's, to ensure people's wellbeing while developing the state.
"If the factories (related to the industries) were not being managed properly, it could cause problems that will jeopardise people's wellbeing, such as water and air pollution, as well as foul smells and flies," he told reporters after presenting licences to 16 operators of crude oil palm factories in the state, here today.
Also present were State Public Amenities, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Abu Ubaidah Redza and State DoE director Norhazni Mat Sari.
Meanwhile, Norhazni said DoE had introduced a Guided Self-Regulation method in which factories carry out own monitoring activity according to the guidelines set by the department.
"Through this method, the factories can carry out self-monitoring and submitted their reports to the DoE when asked to do so," she said. — Bernama
