Panic button for EzCab users

PETALING JAYA: EzCab, an e-hailing provider, has launched a "panic button" in its ride-hailing app that allows riders to notify the police in case of an emergency.
EzCab founder Nor Aleeshah Abdullah said the panic button is on the right hand side of the EzCab app.
"By just tapping on the panic button, the passengers are allowed to either contact the PDRM support line (999), the emergency contact number they have registered when they sign up for the app or EzCab 24/7 customer support centre where there will be a team on-standby to respond to any emergency immediately," Nor Aleeshah said during a media briefing on the feature today.
As passenger safety is their top priority, Nor Aleeshah said stringent checks have been put in place and all their drivers are registered with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
Earlier last month, SPAD called on all e-hailing providers to incorporate an SOS button feature into their mobile application to ensure public safety following several crime involving e-hailing drivers.
SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said the button would allow passengers to notify the authorities immediately if they feel they are in danger.
At the same time, Azharuddin also asked for more stringent checks to be done on the drivers before they are allowed to pick up passengers and for the providers to share all their drivers' details with the commission.
He said providing details to the commission will allow it to screen the drivers with the police and the Road Transport Department.
