BATU KAWAN: Penang has embarked on a RM33.5 million expansion of the Batu Kawan bridge project through the Penang Development Corporation (PDC).
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said that the project was to increase the traffic congestion in the Batu Kawan area, which had developed rapidly.
The project was started on May 3 and it was scheduled to complete on May 2 in 2019.
"Up to this moment, the progress of the project has achieved 4% as the tasks, including cleaning the site, setting up the project's signboard and gate, have been carried at the site now," Lim said after launching the Batu Kawan bridge expansion project here today.
"The existing 220m-long bridge with two lanes, with a width of 11m, will be expanded to six lanes with a width of 40m. It would provide a better access to road users and people in Batu Kawan."
