Ministry to act against petrol stations that close early on price-change days

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) will take action against petrol station operators who closed their outlets on the verge of fuel price being increased.
Its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said he received several complaints claiming that petrol stations wanted to make extra profit by closing down their station earlier on Wednesday.
This was after the weekly fuel pricing system announced that the price of RON95 and RON97 would be increased by 4sen and 7sen respectively, effective last night.
"We have received reports from consumers and have begun investigating on the matter. Yesterday, we met up with Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia.
"We will meet up with petrol dealers to take action under the Controlled Supply Act 1961, should they are proven guilty of hiding fuel," Hamzah said during a press conference after launching the World Food Expo at Lulu Hypermarket and Department Store here today.
Claims that several petrol dealers closing their stations early have went viral on social media recently.
KPDNKK enforcement director Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said it was wrong of petrol dealers to close their outlets early without the ministry's permission.
Roslan encouraged consumers to lodge a report at any KPDNKK office or call 1800-8866-800 should they encounter such cases.
