Festival aims to raise RM40,000 for cancer patients

KUALA LUMPUR: The Soorya India Festival 2017 aims to raise RM40,000 at a two-day fundraising show that began last night at the Temple of Fine Arts in Brickfields here.
Its organising chairman, Dr C.D. Siby, said the funds would go to Cansurvive Centre Malaysia, a non-profit cancer charity organisation that provides guidance and support for cancer patients as well as their families and friends.
Dr Siby, who is also the president of the Cansurvive Centre, said he hoped that the annual event, which had been organised since 2012, would bring new hope to patients who battle cancer and increase awareness among people to help them.
He also said that Malaysians could discover the fascinating cultures from India through the music and dance performances with their colourful traditional costumes and accessories at the show.
"This year, there are seven types of dances and music performances, such as contemporary, old dance and traditional music, which represent different cultures in India, involving 29 artistes from India and four from Malaysia," he told Bernama last night.
The festival, organised by Sopaanam Art and directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy, strives to present the finest of the diverse art forms of India to art and culture lovers in Malaysia in a multi-cultural and multi-racial context. — Bernama
