Nouri 'out of danger' after collapse: Ajax

THE HAGUE: Ajax midfielder Abdelhak Nouri was "out of life-threatening danger" but still in intensive care after collapsing during a training match in Austria, as relatives flew in to support him, the club said Sunday.
Ajax called off an open training on Monday following the sudden collapse of Nouri over the weekend, which the top Amsterdam club said was heart-related.
"Nouri is currently being kept asleep in intensive care, but he is out of danger," Ajax said in a statement.
Nouri, 20, suddenly collapsed during a match against Werder Bremen in the Austrian town of Zillertal near Innsbruck.
Ajax on Sunday confirmed he suffered "cardiac arrhythmia after which he was reanimated."
The young player — one of Ajax's up-and-coming prospects, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Innsbruck.
Ajax communications chief Miel Brinkhuis told AFP that five of Nouri's relatives were flown to Austria to be by his side.
Meanwhile Ajax said training on Monday — the first of the season which would have been open to fans — had been cancelled as a result of the incident.
"Ajax finds that the open training... which always has a bit of a party atmosphere, at this point would not be appropriate."
Saturday's match — which was also cancelled — was the last at a training camp organised under Ajax's new coach Marcel Keizer.
Nouri first made his debut for Ajax in September last year in a Dutch Cup match against Willem II where he scored a goal.
He was also name Jupiler Player of the Season 2016-17 in May for his contribution in the second-tier Jong Ajax or "Young Ajax" team. — AFP
