ROS orders DAP polls politically motivated: Lim Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: National opposition party DAP feels the Registrar of Societies (ROS) order for the party to conduct re-elections is politically motivated according to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix).

The DAP secretary general said the move was to cripple the administration of the party as well as their machinery and preparatory work for the 14th General Election which must be held by the middle of 2018.

He described the order as lacking in clarity and had caused confusion and pointed out ROS had told the party to conduct a reelection in 2013.

He said the party had then did as required and questioned why the new order came only four years after in 2017 and not in 2014.

He said this gave the impression that "we do also wrong, don't do also wrong".

Lim said the 2013 re-election was held after the party election in 2012 using the same delegates list in 2012.

He however pointed out the 2012 delegates list would have changed after four years as some have left the party and some have passed away.

"For example, our late national chairman Karpal Singh, are we now going to ask him to return to vote?

This we feel does not make sense, we feel very 'ganjil' (strange) about this," he told a press conference yesterday.

The fate of the DAP hangs on the edge after the ROS last week ordered the party to conduct party elections for its
central executive committee (CEC).

This comes after the Registrar found the earlier reelection on Sept 29, 2013, was not conducted according to the law.

Lim said the party has yet to receive the official letter from ROS and stressed the DAP would like to meet with the
Registrar.

He said the matter will be reviewed by Cheras MP and national acting chairman Tan Kok Wai, Seremban MP and national organising secretary Anthony Loke and Puchong MP and CEC member Gobind Singh.

theSun has emailed ROS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah for a response.
