KUALA LUMPUR: What used to be an annual tradition only for staff members of law firm Lee Hishammuddin Allen and Gledhill (LHAG) turned into something special when the firm invited children from two orphanages to its annual movie day fun.
Some 100 children from the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society and Rumah Aman were treated to a special screening of the latest Spider-Man: Homecoming movie by the firm at Nu Sentral here on Saturday.
One of the lawyers in the firm who was instrumental in organising the event, S. Saravana Kumar, said they were looking to do something different this year.
"We usually have a movie day for all staff and partners every year, but this year, instead of just going to the movies by ourselves, we decided to do something good and treat the children from these orphanages," he said.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan was guest of honour at the special screening.
"What the law firm has done is very special for these children. For many of them, this would be the first time they have stepped into a cinema, and in years to come when they recall this experience, they will have fond memories of today," he said.
Kamalanathan added the education ministry will be more than willing to work with law firms which are willing to lend a helping hand and organise programmes like this for the underprivileged children.
Also in attendance was partner at LHAG Datuk Nithin Nadkarni.
