Different approach to education goal

PETALING JAYA: Unlike most universities whose main focus is their students' academic achievements or their universities' ranking, LungHwa University of Science and Technology from Taiwan has a slightly different approach to its education goal.
Its president Ko Tzu-Hsiang told theSun that the university stressed good grades and provided the best facilities for its undergraduates but academic excellence was not everything to the university.
"We tend to focus more on incubating the students to have a good career path after they graduate. We also continuously develop our research on applied sciences and technologies. This is a feature of our university.
"We strongly believe that by incubating professional experts for the industry, it can help to raise the innovation standard in the country," Ko said when met at the Taiwan Higher Education Fair 2017.
The fair was officiated by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon and attended by Taiwan's Political Deputy Minister of Education Dr Tsai Ching-Hwa.
Ko said currently there were some 150 Malaysia students in his university with multimedia and game design as the two popular courses among the students.
Asked if any Malaysian students have any problems adapting to the study environment there, Ko said as far as he is aware, there is not much of a problem as most of the programmes or courses are conducted in English.
The two-day fair saw the participation of 92 renowned Taiwan universities with each offering different courses.
