PUTRAJAYA: Electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 says the Election Commission (EC) has performed a "backdoor process" in relation to the redelineation of electoral boundaries.
Its chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said the process included placing voters in a separate constituency resulting in the boundaries being expanded.
"According to the Federal Constitution this can't be done without Parliament's approval. It is unconstitutional," she told reporters here today.
She cited Kuala Kubu Baru as a prime example of Bersih's findings on the redelineation process, adding the electoral watchdog would bring the matter to court.
Earlier, she had submitted a memorandum to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan on the redelineation of electoral boundaries based on Bersih's findings.
The memorandum contains seven demands which includes among others a call to reform the EC, present the memorandum's proposal to the Cabinet to review laws on political financing, and establishing an independent Electoral Roll Auditing Committee that corrects errors in the electoral roll.
