Four killed in lorry-van crash, lorry driver held

LAHAD DATU: Four people, two of them women, were killed in a head-on collision between a van and a tanker lorry at Km3 of Jalan Lahad Datu-Tungku here early today, according to the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station.
Its chief, Mohd Apandi Mahmood, said the four, who were the driver and passengers of the van, were trapped in their vehicle that was found under the lorry following the accident at 5.45am.
"The four people were trapped (in the van) under the lorry. We removed the bodies between 9.05am and 9.22am," he said.
Lahad Datu Police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said the 58-year-old tanker lorry driver was detained to help in the investigation.
"We will provide details later," he said when contacted.
Hamzah identified the dead as the male van driver Eddie Luna, 46, male passenger Mohammad Jujani, 67, and female passengers Hanisah Baskua, 37, and Kabdatul Alinjaman, 34. — Bernama
