KUALA LUMPUR: No one will be charged with murder over the death of religious school student, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Ghaddafi, said police.
Deputy Inspector-General of police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the post-mortem results showed he died due to leptospirosis and other medical complications.
"We will have to change the charges from Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder to maybe causing harm or assault," he said.
He said police will push the case until it goes to court.
"Rest assured we will push this case until it goes to court. We will propose to start an inquiry into the death," he said.
He added that the inquiry will be held in an open forum so the public are aware of the case.
"Investigations into the case should be concluded by this week," he said.
On April 19, Mohamad Thaqif was warded following alleged abuse by the school’s assistant warden, who is an ex-convict.
The schoolboy’s legs had to be amputated due to bacterial infection. The infection also spread to his right arm.
He died on April 26.
The assistant warden was charged with allegedly abusing the victim but was freed on a RM20,000 police bail on May 3.
